Borut Pahor

Borut Pahor (born 2 November 1963) is a Slovenian politician who was Prime Minister of Slovenia from 2008 to 2012. He was elected as President of Slovenia in December 2012. 
A longtime president of the Social Democrats party, Pahor served several terms as a member of the National Assembly and was its chairman from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, Pahor was elected as member of the European Parliament. Following the victory of the Social Democrats in the 2008 parliamentary election, Pahor was appointed as Prime Minister.
 
In September 2011, Pahor's government lost a confidence vote amidst an economic crisis and political tensions. He continued to serve as the pro tempore Prime Minister until he was replaced by Janez Janša in February 2012. In June 2012, he announced he would run for the largely ceremonial office of President of Slovenia. He won the election and defeated President Danilo Türk in a second round of voting, held on 2 December 2012; he received roughly two-thirds of the vote 
Early Years
Pahor was born in Postojna, SR Slovenia (in the former Yugoslavia) and spent his childhood in the town of Nova Gorica on the border with Italy, before moving to the nearby town of Šempeter pri Gorici. He attended Nova Gorica Grammar School, and in 1983 he enrolled to the University of Ljubljana, where he studied public policy and political science at the Faculty of Sociology, Political Science and Journalism (FSPN, now known as Faculty for Social Sciences, FDV). He graduated in 1987 with a thesis on peace negotiations between members of the Non-Aligned Movement. His B.A. thesis was awarded the Student Prešeren Award, the highest academic award for students in Slovenia. According to the Slovenian press, Pahor worked as a male model to pay for his university studies.

Janez Janša

Ivan Janša (born 17 September 1958), baptised and most known by the name Janez Janša, is a Slovenian politician who has been Prime Minister of Slovenia since February 2012. He previously served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2008, and he has been President of the Slovenian Democratic Party since 1993. Janša was Minister of Defense from 1990 to 1994, holding that post during the Slovenian War of Independence (June–July 1991).

Youth and Education
Born as Ivan Janša to a Roman Catholic working-class family of Grosuplje, he was called Janez (a version of the same name, known as John in English) since childhood. His father was a former member of the Slovenian Home Guard from Dbrova near Ljubljana who had escaped Communist retaliation due to his young age. Janez Janša graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in defence studies in 1982, and became a trainee in the Defence Secretariate of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia. In his younger years, he was a member of the League of Communists and one of the leaders of its youth wing. He became president of the Committee for Basic People's Defence and Social Self-Protection of the Alliance of Socialist Youth of Slovenia (ZSMS).

Personal Life
Janša is an active mountaineer, golfer, footballer, skier and snowboarder. Apart from his native Slovene, he is fluent in Serbo-Croatian, English, and French.

Since July 2009, Janša has been married to the doctor of medicine Urška Bačovnik from Velenje. The two had been dating since 2006. In August 2011, their son Črtomir was born.

Before his marriage with Urška Bačovnik, Janša was in a long-term relationship with Silva Predalič, who bore him two children, a son and a daughter, both currently students.

Danilo Türk

Danilo Türk (born 19 February 1952) is the current President of Slovenia. He is also a lawyer and diplomat.

Early Life
Türk was born in a lower middle class family in Maribor, Slovenia (then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia). His father died when he was a child. He attended the prestigious II. Gymnasium High school in Maribor. In 1971 he enrolled to the University of Ljubljana where he studied law. He obtained an MA with a thesis on minority rights from the University of Belgrade's Law School. In 1978, he became a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana. In 1982, he obtained his PhD with a thesis on the principle of non-intervention in international law. In 1983, he became the director of the Institute for International Law of the University of Ljubljana. In the following years, he worked on minority rights. In the mid 1980s, he collaborated with Amnesty International to report on human rights issues in Yugoslavia.

Between 1986 and 1992, he served as the UN Special Rapporteur on the Realization of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. In 1990, he returned to Slovenia as member of the Constitutional Commission of the Slovenian National Assembly led by France Bučar and Peter Jambrek. He co-authored the chapter of human rights in the 19XX Slovenian Constitution.

Personal Life
Danilo Türk is married with Barbara Türk née Miklič. They have a daughter. He is the brother of the manager and politician Vitoslav Türk, member of the Slovenian Democratic Party.
